Advice Needed

So, I am trying to decide if I should try to move Henson to a big bed before baby #2 arrives in April.
I was thinking that if I DID do this I would try around February to give him a couple months to get used to it.
BUT, I don't want to push it too soon. I know it takes certain cognitive development for this transition, but I think by then he could be ready.
Thoughts from people with experience would be appreciated.

Keep him in the cage as long as possible. Bode hasn't taken one nap since he moved to his bed....You will need all the breaks you can get.

Lily was almost 3 when Addy was born, and since she was a girl that changes things too (I think). I would say don't worry about him being in a crib too! As long as he's not trying to escape the crib! AND....
no matter what you deicde...
it WILL be the right choice!

We moved both of our kids to big beds at 2. Kadence actually was harder than Kaison. We just put a rail up on the side to keep him from rolling out. He has NEVER gotten out of bed for any reason other than when he wakes up in the morning. To start the transition...we just took one side off his crib and put the railing up on that. He could get out if he wanted to, but never did. Good luck!

I didn't want to buy another crib, so I gave Avery the boot. She was 22 months when Zane was born but I think I moved her at 18mo. I just put up a rail and she loved it. I like Tara's idea of just taking the front off (although I'm not sure my $40 g-sale crib could do that?) and see how he is. If it's terrible, just buy another crib! Even Zane got the boot by or before 2 years. I think it's easier when it's done before the kids realize they have power to make mom and dad lose it! However, BOTH my kids decided to fight sleep when they turned 3 (power/control issues kicked in!). Something about 3...for a good 6 months, it was a battle. They would fall asleep on the floor because it was better than to surrender and get in bed! That may be with Bode,or he just doesn't like beds!? Good luck! Every kid is different, just test out the waters and go with your gut!

We moved Cason into a bed when he was 17 months...because we were having another baby and needed the crib. For us, it was the worst mistake ever. We should have kept him a crib and just got another one for Kendall. But Henson will be older than that, so it will probably be ok. We JUST moved Kendall to a bed and she's almost three. And the only reason I did was because she told me she wouldn't sleep in her crib anymore.

I agree with Summer! Brady is still in a crib. He wasn't ready when Carter got here and frankly I didn't want to deal with it! Keep him in the cage!

Keep them in the crib forever!!! J/k...but we do have a crib you could borrow!

What have you decided?

Thanks for your input, everyone. I think I am going to keep the crib. Why do that to myself too soon!?!
